FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE
FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE
What’s it all about?
Winning the 1991 Olivier Award for Best Entertainment, Five Guys Named Moe returns to London in a brand new production this summer. Taking up residence in the custom-made Marble Arch Theatre, you’ll be transported to a red-hot New Orleans jazz club in the 1940s complete with an authentic cocktail bar and band-stand. A musical revue featuring the songs of Louis Jordan, the idea for Five Guys Named Moe started life as a musical short by Jordan in 1943, and was adapted into a full show by book writer Clarke Peters. Many of Jodan’s rhythm and blues hits feature, including Saturday Night Fish Fry, Choo Choo Ch’Boogie and Early In The Morning. Five Guys Named Moe is to be directed by Clarke Peters and choreographed by double Olivier Award nominee Andrew Wright.
All tickets for Five Guys Named Moe will include a souvenir programme (worth £10) that will be handed out on arrival.
Whats the story?
With a bad case of the blues, Nomax needs a lift. His girlfriend Lorraine has left him and his bank account is dry. It’s 5 am, he can’t sleep, he’s had a bit too much to drink and the only comfort he has is his 1930s style radio. Hoping that the tunes will help him out of his miserable rut, he is astonished when five guys come to life out of his radio and help comfort and cajole him through the music of Louis Jordan. Big Moe, Four-Eyed Moe, Eat Moe, No Moe and Little Moe make Nomax see through music, infectious energy and soul that he has pushed people away with his boozing and self-deception. The only person that can actively change him is him, and as the five guys raise him up, he begins to fully appreciate that he is better than the recluse he has become. Realising that he is still very much in love with Lorraine, Nomax sets out to win her back. But is it too late?
This all-singing, all-dancing production encompasses the blues, gospel, soul and early r’n’b of Louis Jordan’s music and is a fitting celebration of the legendary performer.
Who’s in it?
Edward Baruwa stars as Nomax, with the Moes being played by Ian Carlyle (Four-Eyed Moe), Dex Lee (Know Moe), Idriss Kargbo (Little Moe), Timothy Martin (Big Moe) and Emile Ruddock (Eat Moe).
